Israel takes greater pains to avoid Palestinian casualties

Sunday, December 30, 2007 |  by Staff Writer

Military officials cited in the Israeli media at the weekend noted marked decrease in 2007 in the number of innocent Palestinian bystanders killed in targeted Israeli aerial strikes on known terrorists.

The officials said that in the past, an average of one civilian was inadvertently killed for every terrorist eliminated. The ratio today is a much improved one civilian death for every 30 terrorists killed.

The progress was attributed to greater cooperation between the Israeli Air Force and the Israel Security Agency or Shin Bet.
