Israeli soldiers manning the Erez Crossing between Gaza and southern Israel on Monday shot and killed a Palestinian man and woman pretending to be a couple in order to get close enough to the terminal to attack it.
The terrorists were reportedly holding hands in an effort to appear non-threatening. Once within range of the Israelis, the couple opened fire. Following the brief firefight, a bomb belt was found on the female terrorist.
Female Palestinian suicide bomber have taken the lives of at least 37 Israelis over the past seven years.
Also on Monday, a group of four Israeli photojournalists taking pictures across the Gaza security fence came under fire from a Palestinian sniper who was apparently protecting the launch site of a rocket that was fired into southern Israel.
None of the photographers were wounded in the incident, though their vehicles were struck by several bullets. Army officials later reported that the size of the bullet holes in the cars suggested the terrorist had been firing a heavy machine gun and not just an assault rifle.
