Israel launches innovative new spy satellite

Monday, January 21, 2008 |  by Staff Writer

An advanced Israeli spy satellite was sent into orbit atop an Indian rocket on Monday morning, significantly bolstering Israel's ability to keep on eye on regional threats like Iran's nuclear program.

The satellite, designated TECSAR, utilizes an innovative Israeli-made radar-based imaging system, rather than traditional high-powered cameras.

The new system will allow TECSAR to maintain uninterrupted coverage even through dense cloud cover.
