Palestinians protested the blockade of the terrorist-run Gaza Strip by breaking through the territory's short southern border with the Egyptian Sinai on Tuesday night.
Bands of militants used explosives to blow holes in the security wall separating Gaza from the Sinai Peninsula, allowing more than 350,000 Palestinians to pour into Egypt on Wednesday. The breach forced Egyptian authorities to open the crossing in the nearby border town of Rafah.
Earlier, Egyptian police had repulsed hundreds of Palestinian rioters attempting to break through the Rafah border terminal. Over 90 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Egyptian border guards.
Israeli army officials cited by Ynet said the new border breach will likely be exploited by Gaza-based terrorist forces to smuggle more weapons into the territory, ultimately forcing Israel to impose an even stricter blockade.
