Israel to apologize for canceling Beatles concert

Monday, January 28, 2008 |  by Staff Writer

Israel plans to issue personal apologies to the surviving members of the Beatles more than four decades after Jerusalem denied the iconic British band the necessary permits to hold a planned concert in the Jewish state.

The 1965 concert was cancelled after having sold out due to government concerns that the music would corrupt the morals of Israeli youth.

According to Army Radio, Israel's ambassador to London will meet with and offer a personal apology to the sister of the late John Lennon, and surviving band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be invited to participate in Israel's 60th Independence Day celebrations.
