Iran tries to exploit situation in Gaza

Iran tried to exploit the crisis at the Gaza-Egypt border to more prominently insert itself into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In meetings with Egyptian officials in Cairo on Monday, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Ali Mohammadi offered his nation's assistance in providing aid to the Gaza Strip via the territory's border with Egypt.

Iran enjoys close ties with Gaza's Hamas rulers, and is widely respected among the Palestinians for its hatred of Israel and the United States.

According to Israeli military officials, Iran is today the primary supplier of arms, funds and terrorist know-how to Hamas and allied Palestinian terror groups.
