20,000 settlers attend mass prayer near Knesset

Tuesday, January 11, 2005 |

About 20,000 settlers and their supporters attended a mass prayer in front of the Knesset Monday evening to demonstrate their strong opposition to the Disengagement Plan. They stood outside the Knesset reciting Biblical verses and praying for an end to the Disengagement order and the uprooting of settlements. A sit-down strike began last week in front of the Knesset but was temporarily called off on Monday. Former chief rabbis Avraham Shapira and Mordechai Eliyahu were among other rabbis who read out verses from the Psalms, which the protesters repeated back in a responsive reading style.
