Israel debates homosexual adoption

Tuesday, February 12, 2008 |  by Staff Writer

The Knesset's Labor, Welfare and Health Committee was called to session on Monday to debate a recent decision by Israeli Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to allow homosexual couples to adopt children not biologically related to either partner.

Many of the committee members hail from conservative and religious parties and oppose the decision.

Prior to Mazuz's decision, homosexual couples in Israel could adopt each other's children. The new decision would allow such couples to also adopt unrelated children.
