Snow blankets Israel

For the second time this winter, Jerusalem was blanketed with snow Tuesday morning as a major cold front hit the eastern Mediterranean seaboard.

Only several inches of snow accumulated across the capital, despite the fact there was heavy snowfall during much of the day Tuesday. Slightly warmer than freezing temperatures on the ground prevented greater accumulation.

The strong storm front weakened somewhat before hitting Israel after spending more time than expected over the Mediterranean. Originally, meteorologists were predicting the powerful storm would even bring light snowfall to Tel Aviv.
