Sharon's son, Omri, goes to jail

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 |  by Staff Writer

Omri Sharon, son of comatose former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, began serving a seven-month prison sentence on Wednesday, just one day after marking his father's 80th birthday at a Tel Aviv hospital.

Omri was convicted last year of concealing illegal financial contributions to his father's 1999 campaign for chairman of the Likud Party.

The execution of Omri's sentence was delayed by numerous appeals to Israel's Supreme Court to reduce the former Knesset member's jail time.
