Israeli government officials on Tuesday told Ha'aretz that the third round of UN sanctions against Iran passed by the Security Council on Monday would accomplish little, if anything.
One source noted that the fact the sanctions package was approved by all Security Council members was evidence enough that it was too soft.
Meanwhile, an official statement released by Israel's Foreign Ministry noted that regardless of the severity of the sanctions, or lack thereof, continued punitive action by the UN against Iran is evidence that the Islamic Republic is not to be trusted regarding its nuclear program.
The new sanctions approved by the Security Council include the right to search cargo shipments into and out of Iran, additional monitoring of Iranian financial institutions and the freezing of foreign assets of any individual or business with connections to Iran's nuclear program.
