Police block Muslim work on Temple Mount

Wednesday, March 05, 2008 |  by Staff Writer

Israeli police on Tuesday finally began to block unauthorized Islamic construction work atop Jerusalem's Temple Mount.

Police officials told the Jerusalem Post that officers stationed at the Temple Mount physically blocked Arab workers from approaching an area of the compound where they intended to do some surfacing work.

Israeli opposition officials and senior archeologists have for years complained that the Islamic authorities that administer the Temple Mount are conducting construction projects that violate peace agreements and are aimed at erasing Jewish history at the site.

Huge quantities of soil and debris removed from the Temple Mount and dumped by the Muslims in a nearby valley have been found to contain important, but destroyed Jewish artifacts providing evidence of the existence of the biblical Israeli temples.
