Israeli Ambassador to the UN Dan Gillerman engaged in a heated exchange with Arab representatives on Tuesday during the UN Security Council's monthly session on the Middle East.
The session opened with the Syrian and Sudanese representatives accusing Israel of being a terrorist state and of aspiring to conquer "all Arab nations."
Gillerman responded that the human rights-abusing regimes in Damascus and Khartoum had absolutely no right to criticize Israel.
The Israeli went on to scold the international community for continuing to draw moral equivalence between Arab Muslim terrorism against Israeli civilians and Israel's legitimate military response to that aggression "in the name of an ill-conceived balance."
Gillerman also warned that the current lull in violence in and around the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip was only a facade, and that under the surface Hamas and its allies were rearming and regrouping for future assaults against the Jewish state.
