American support of Israel a 'fundamental conviction'

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissenger told The Jerusalem Post at the weekend that in the run-up to the 60th anniversary of Israel's rebirth as a nation-state, American support for the Jewish state is at an all-time high.

According to Kissenger, who together with every living former secretary of state and former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton will co-chair a national committee responsible for marking Israel's anniversary, American support for Israel goes beyond political considerations, it is a "fundamental conviction."

In related news, former US State Department advisor Aaron David Miller has used his new book The Much Too Promised Land to counter conspiracy theorists that claim the pro-Israel lobby in America effectively controls US foreign policy.

While no friend of those who adhere to a "Land of Israel" ideology, Miller insists in his book that "there is no conspiracy," and points out that during his time as adviser to no fewer than six secretaries of state not once did pressure from the pro-Israel lobby alter "a single decision of consequence."
