Obama campaign launches Hebrew blog in Israel

US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has a blog...in Hebrew.

Obama's campaign launched the blog website last week in an effort to endear the popular Illinois senator to an Israeli public that local polls show put him a distant third to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.

Like many American Jews, Israelis are wary of Obama's Muslim family roots and his association with anti-Semitic preachers and anti-Israel policy advisors.

The blog is being updated by Obama's advisor on Middle East affairs, Erik Lynn, who in his first two posts stressed the candidate's commitment to Israel's security.

According to Israel's Yediot Ahronot newspaper, Lynn indicated that Obama was keen to get the blog online before the April 22 Democratic primary in Pennsylvania, a state with a large Jewish population.
