A Palestinian Arab terrorist shot dead two middle-aged Israeli security guards at the Nitzanei Shalom industrial zone in central Israel early Friday morning.
Nitzanei Shalom is situated adjacent to the Palestinian-controlled town of Tulkarm, and despite being inside the boundaries of sovereign Israel offers daily employment to hundreds of Palestinians.
The security guards were reportedly screening Palestinian workers when the gunman approached and shot them at close range. Israeli medical personnel pronounced the two victims dead at the scene.
Security forces were immediately deployed in an effort to capture the murderer, who is believed to have escaped back into Tulkarm.
In other terrorist violence, Palestinian forces operating out of the northern Gaza Strip on Friday fired four missiles at the southern Israel coastal city of Ashkelon. The rockets landed in the city's southern industrial zone, narrowly missing at least one strategic facility.
Ashkelon's industrial zone is home to one of Israel's largest power plants and numerous chemical storage facilities.
