Man takes Jewish youths hostage in Warsaw

A man claiming to be carrying a bomb briefly took three young Brazilian Jews hostage at a hotel in Warsaw, Poland on Monday.

The assailant entered his victims' room and threatened the youth before engaging in a short standoff with police. After discovering that the man in fact did not have a bomb, police stormed the room and freed the Jewish captives, who were in Poland to participate in last week's March of the Living commemorating the murders that took place at the Nazi death camp at nearby Auschwitz.

Police refuse to release the identity of the assailant, though at least one media outlet suggested that he is Arab. Some witnesses said the man appeared to be drunk prior to the ordeal.
