A missile fired by Gaza-based Palestinian forces Wednesday evening slammed into a shopping mall in the southern Israel coastal city of Ashkelon wounding at least 14 people.
Among the victims were wounded seriously in the attack were mother and her young daughter and an unrelated woman. At least one other child was hurt when the rocket tore a hole in the roof of the mall and sent a large pile of debris and twisted metal falling onto unsuspecting civilians.
Israel Radio reported that army commanders are ready to execute any orders for a response, noting that their forces are ready to retaliatory action ranging from limited pinpoint strikes to a full-scale ground invasion of Gaza.
It is expected that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is currently hosting a large number of world leaders including US President George W. Bush, will once again opt for limited response that serves more to appease public opinion than accomplish any real military goal.
