Israeli soldiers manning one of the many "West Bank" checkpoints the international community insists must be removed shot and killed a would-be Palestinian suicide bomber attempting to infiltrate sovereign Israel late Monday evening.
The terrorist's explosive-laden vest set off a metal detector at the checkpoint outside the Samarian town of Nablus, alerting soldiers to the threat. After confirming that the man had bombs strapped to his body, the Israelis ordered him to lie flat on the ground. When he refused to do so and started moving his hands toward the bomb vest, the Israeli commander on duty shot and killed the terrorist.
Under increasing pressure from an international community determined to see the birth of a Palestinian state this year, Israel has already removed several major checkpoints similar to the one that prevented the terrorist from reaching Israeli civilians. World leaders are demanding that Israel continue to remove the first, and sometimes only line of defense between Palestinian suicide bombers and the Israeli public.
