With traditional anti-Semitism rampant in Spain, Director Herve Hachuel decided to do something about the Spanish perception of Israel.
Hachuel sent five actors to Israel and created the reality TV show, “Rambam,” a series documenting professional and social integration at a hospital in Israel. The shoot was a three-week project filmed at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. It was the actors’ first trip to Israel.
“The only thing they show on Spanish television or write about in the papers is dead or wounded people, shooting and suffering Palestinians,” said Hachuel. “All the rest - life outside the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - simply does not exist for them. My goal was to show this human and civilian reality without any political propaganda.”
Hachuel chose to run a hospital series because of its general success in the world of television. He believes what happens in the hospital is a microcosm of society. There are different stories which people can easily identify with.
