Army identifies remains of five soldiers

The Israeli army said it identified the remains of five Israeli soldiers killed during the Second Lebanon War in a box of body parts handed over by Hizballah to Israel this week.

The soldiers were Captain Daniel Gomez, Major Nissan Shalev, St.-Sgt. Major Ron Mashiach and Major Sami Ben-Naim all killed in a transport helicopter crash, and Major Gilad Zusman, killed by an anti-tank missile.

The DNA was matched with genetic samples that had been taken from the soldiers standard military procedure in recent years.

There is still no word as to the fate of two soldiers who were kidnapped in a raid that sparked the 2006 war. Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev are being held by Hizballah, but no sign has ever been offered to Israel to prove that they are alive.
