Former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton said on Tuesday that if presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama wins the upcoming US presidential election, he is certain Israel will immediately attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
Speaking to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Bolton noted that Israel could not afford to hold off a strike on Iran any longer if Obama is elected president, given the Illinois senator's intended foreign policy toward the Islamic Republic.
Obama has stated that he wants to engage Iran in direct talks, and to explicitly take the military option for dealing with Iran's quest for nuclear weapons off the table, a position that experts say will further embolden Tehran to build a nuclear bomb.
Bolton predicted that the Israeli attack would take place sometime between the day after Obama's win and his inauguration on January 20 of next year.
Bolton went on to note that Arab countries will quietly be very pleased if Israel ends Iran's nuclear ambitions, while publicly denouncing the Israeli strike.
Earlier this month, Israel held a massive air force exercise over Greece that US, Israeli and Greek sources later confirmed was a test run for a strike on Iran's main uranium enrichment plant.
