Palestinian Authority policemen were stationed on Friday in the northern Gaza Strip in an attempt to bring a cessation of the Qassam and mortar attacks on Israeli communities. The deployment was completed on Friday and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said that the PA will deploy security forces in the southern Gaza Strip within two days. When asked what would happen if the security forces would encounter militants on their way to carrying out an attack, one PA official said, “We will avoid clashing with them and we will talk to them in a positive way.” The head of the PA police force in Gaza said that his men would not arrest terrorists and they have not been ordered to open fire on those launching rockets. “We understand that we will not be 100 percent successful in stopping them, but at least we are out there,” he said.
