Cabinet meets in Sderot

Sunday, January 23, 2005 |
The Israeli Cabinet held its weekly meeting in a symbolic place today--Sderot, a Negev desert town that has been repeatedly targeted in Palestinian rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon praised Abbas for deploying 3,000 Palestinian troops on the Gaza border to prevent the firing of rockets and mortars. "After a long period of Palestinian terror and vigorous activity of the [Israeli] security forces against terror, it is quiet," Sharon told ministers. "I hope that maybe the quiet will continue and if not, the army and security forces will continue to do all that is necessary to remove the threat from the residents here."
