The Jerusalem Arabs behind at least three of the major terrorist attacks in the capital this year may have murdered Jews as a means of vindication for past crimes, Arab sources told The Jerusalem Post.
Israeli defense officials have noted that neither of the two young Arab road workers who attacked motorists and public buses with bulldozers this month were known to be affiliated with terrorist organizations. Nor was the lone Arab gunman who attacked a Jerusalem yeshiva in March a member of a Palestinian terror group.
What all three of those men did have in common was a criminal past that had made each of them something of a pariah inside his own community.
The Arab sources who spoke to the Post suggested that terrorist elements or more radical members of their own communities in Jerusalem had convinced each of the young outcast men that they could clear their name only by committing an act of violence against Israel in service to Allah.
Indeed, each of the Jerusalem Arab terrorists has since been publicly deemed a "holy martyr" by the wider Palestinian Arab community.
