Nazi symbol used to attract customers in Belgium

Sunday, July 27, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

In yet another sign that Europe may not be so far removed from the racist nationalism that brought about World War II, a cafe in Antwerp, Belgium used a recognizable Nazi symbol in the sign above its door in an effort to attract more customers.

The symbol used was that of the SS Nazi military organization that was behind most of the regime's brutal war crimes, reported the European Jewish Press.

Surely, the owner of the cafe would not have displayed the SS emblem if he believed it would drive customers away. He clearly knew the Nazi symbol could only increase business among a population where an affinity for fascism remains under the surface.
