Israel's Civil Administration, the body that governs the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria (the so-called "West Bank"), confiscated over 30,000 miles of water piping this week from Palestinian Arabs who had been using it to steal water from Israel's water carrier.
Israel National News reported that local Arab residents in the area of Hebron had for years been tapping into the main water conduits that carry water to both Jewish and Arab towns in the area, stealing some 3 million cubic meters of water each year.
In some areas, it was reported to Israel Today that the main pipes were no longer delivering enough water because they were being tapped so many times along the way.
A Civil Administration official said that despite this first successful effort to combat the water theft, it is estimated that Palestinians in Judea still possess some 85 percent of the piping through which they siphon off the water.
