Israeli windsurfer wins Olympic bronze

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

Israeli windsurfer Shahar Tzubari secured Israel's only medal of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Israel's seventh Olympic medal ever on Wednesday.

Tzubari started the final race of the windsurfing competition in fourth place, but surged ahead of everyone except his competitor from Hong Kong to take second place in the race and secure third place overall.

Israeli television commentators exploded with excitement as Tzubari crossed the finish line, bringing a moment of national pride during an otherwise disappointing Israeli showing at the Olympic Games.

Israeli medal favorites in several other events failed to place in the top three.
