Israel resumes barrier construction

Tuesday, January 25, 2005 |

After months in legal limbo, Israel's attorney general has approved construction of a 2.5-mile (4-km.) segment of the controversial security barrier near the big Jewish settlement of Ariel in Samaria. An Israeli court suspended construction in this area seven months ago, on grounds that too much land was being confiscated from the Palestinians. The new route confiscates a smaller portion of disputed territory, but Palestinians say it's a “land grab.”
