Greenpeace invades Israeli port

Monday, September 08, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

A Greenpeace ship named Rainbow Warrior entered and illegally docked in the southern Israel coastal city of Ashkelon on Monday to protest against a new local power plant.

The new plant, which is located near the port, will run on coal, one of the few natural resources Israel is able to readily get its hands on due to the number of countries that dislike the Jewish state.

Greenpeace activists said they plan to launch several small boats from the Rainbow Warrior and park them in front of the power plant in protest.

Israeli naval units were called to the area, but by Monday afternoon had yet to decide how best to deal with the environmental extremists.
