Hamas officials sue to remain Israeli

Thursday, September 11, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

A number of senior Hamas officials are suing to retain their Israeli identity cards, even as their movement advocates the destruction of the Jewish state.

Israel's Supreme Court heard the Hamas officials' petition on Thursday. It was filed after Israel's Interior Ministry rescinded the Hamas members' residency status as a result of them taking up official positions in the Hamas government that today rules the Gaza Strip.

Israeli residency status and the identity cards that go along with it permit the Hamas men to move around Israel freely.
