Terrorists claim hostage Israeli soldier is living large

Sunday, September 14, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

Gaza-based Palestinian terrorists made the incredible claim on Sunday that hostage Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is living in relative paradise, and is even treated to annual birthday parties.

Abu Katab Doghmush, whose Army of Islam was one of three terror groups involved in the cross-border abduction of Shalit in June 2006, told London's Sunday Times that "our religion of Islam demands that we look after prisoners even more than we do our own people."

Israel recently marked Shalit's 22nd birthday. Doghmush insists that where Shalit is being held in Gaza, the day was not solemn and somber as in Israel, but was marked with "cake and candles, music, everything."

The terror boss rebuked claims that Shalit is being held in dank, dark solitary confinement as "this would be unhealthy." Shalit, he asserted, is kept in comfortable quarters and is able to go outside regularly.

Other Israelis who have suffered in Muslim captivity have painted a far different picture of their ordeal.
