Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has praised Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas for his efforts to curb violence. "There is no doubt Abu Mazen [Abbas’ nom de guerre] has started to work," Sharon told Israel’s biggest newspaper “Yediot Ahronot.” "I am very satisfied with what I hear is happening on the Palestinian side and I am very interested in advancing the peace process with him…I intend to advance the opportunity for an agreement with the Palestinians. I intend to make gestures toward Abu Mazen and at the same time keep my eyes open and examine the situation on their side.” That was a hint that eventually Israel will insist that Abbas dismantle terrorist groups.
