UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday issued a report calling on both Israel and the Lebanese terrorist militia Hizballah to stop making grand threats against each other in the media.
The commander of Israel's Northern Command, Gen. Gadi Eisenkot, recently told Israeli newspapers that his proposal for the use of massively disproportionate force against all Lebanon in the event of a Hizballah attack had been approved.
Hizballah responded by repeating its threats to launch unprecedented missile strikes against the Jewish state, and that it would soon "liberate" a portion of the Golan Heights that it claims belongs to Lebanon.
Ban also leveled harsh criticism at Syria for failing to prevent the smuggling of arms via its territory to Hizballah. The Lebanese group receives most of its financial and material support from Syria and Iran.
Ban reminded Syria that according to the resolutions it makes of show of supporting, Hizballah's arms are illegal, and the group poses a risk to Lebanon's democracy and stability in the region.
