Elderly Israeli killed in Jerusalem terror stabbing

Thursday, October 23, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

A young Palestinian Arab assailant stabbed and killed an 86-year-old Israeli man in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo on Thursday morning.

The young terrorist was stopped for inspection by a pair of police officers, a man and a woman, when he pulled out a large knife and attacked the male officer.

As he tried to escape the scene, the terrorist stopped long enough to plunge his knife into the chest of an elderly pedestrian. Emergency resuscitation efforts by ambulance crews failed.

Despite his own wounds, the police officer managed to shoot the attacker several times. Another passerby then overpowered the injured terrorist.

Both the terrorist and the wounded officer were taken to Jerusalem's Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in moderate-to-serious condition.
