Archeologists working south of the Dead Sea in present-day Jordan have dated a massive copper mine and processing facility to the time of King Solomon, reported the Associated Press.
Research at the site in the 1970s and 1980s mistakenly dated its origin as a copper production facility to the 7th century BC, some three hundred years after Solomon's time.
But this time around archeologists dug deeper, and confirmed that the mine was in active use already in the 10th century BC, around the time that the Bible records King Solomon consolidating his expanded kingdom and successfully extracting and trading its natural resources.
One of the dig's leaders, Thomas Levy of the University of California, San Diego, said that while he doesn't "believe everything ancient writings tell us...this research represents a confluence between archeological and scientific data and the Bible."
