An Israeli businessman taken hostage in the West Africa nation of Ghana last week managed to escape from his kidnappers on Wednesday.

The man hailed a taxi and returned to his hotel where he immediately contacted local authorities and the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria following the escape.

Israeli Foreign Ministry officials said the man is unharmed and has been reunited with family members.
