Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gabriela Shalev on Monday suggested to the General Assembly member states that their verbal commitment to never allow another Holocaust is failing the current litmus test.
Speaking at a session called to discuss UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's work plan on memorializing the Holocaust, Shalev pointed out that the international community has taken no specific action against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for advocating the outright destruction of Israel.
Shalev noted that the Nazi Holocaust also started with mere rhetoric meant to stir up hatred for the Jewish people. Those words eventually led to the annihilation of 6 million Jews.
