Settlers to hold mass rally against Gaza pullout

Sunday, January 30, 2005 |

Tens of thousands of Jewish settlers will hold a mass demonstration this evening outside the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, to protest the government’s plan to pull out of the Gaza Strip this summer. The settlers say dismantling 21 Gaza settlements and four more in Judea and Samaria is anti-democratic because Prime Minister Ariel Sharon did not run on a platform of destroying Jewish communities. The demonstration will take place under the slogans: “Let the Nation Decide” and “Call for New Elections.” The Council of Jewish Settlements has rented 1,200 buses to bring protesters to Jerusalem from around the country.
