Former Israeli army chief Moshe Yaalon, who joined the Likud Party last week ahead of Israel's upcoming general election, warned Israelis not to delude themselves regarding Israel's Arab population, which remains a potential fifth column.
In his first press conference since joining Likud, Yaalon stated that most Israeli Arabs continue to view all Israeli Jews, even those in Tel Aviv, as "settlers."
Yaalon pointed to several anti-Israel documents produced by Israeli Arab organizations and politicians over the past few years as evidence of this phenomenon.
Observers said the recent explosion of Jewish-Arab violence in the northern Israel coastal city of Acco also proved that a large percentage of Israel's Arabs were just waiting for the right opportunity to turn on the state.
