Vietnam decides to open embassy in Israel

Monday, November 24, 2008 |  Israel Today Staff

Vietnam has decided to upgrade its ties with Israel to full diplomatic relations by opening an embassy in Tel Aviv in the near future.

Israel has had an embassy in Hanoi since the mid 1990s and has since been pushing for Vietnam to reciprocate.

The communist regime in Hanoi has taken a cautious approach to relations with Israel for years, but with strengthening ties between China and the Jewish state, Vietnam apparently feels like it has nothing to lose.

Israel's Ynet reported that the upgraded ties could significantly increase the current $200 million in annual trade between Israel and Vietnam.
