Gaza mortars wound 8 Israeli soldiers

Palestinian forces operating out of the Gaza Strip wounded eight Israeli soldiers in a mortar shell attack on an army base adjacent to a small village in southern Israel late Friday night.

Three of the wounded were listed in moderate-to-serious condition.

A rocket launched at the same area Friday night, another fired at the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon on Saturday and a third that slammed into the battered town of Sderot on Sunday all failed to cause any damage or injuries.

On Saturday evening Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai repeated the usual warning that Israel will launch a large-scale military operation into Gaza if the rocket and mortar fire does not cease.

Vilnai went on to suggest that despite the escalating attacks from Gaza, an informal ceasefire agreed to by Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers remains in place for the time being.
