Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Wednesday stressed that it is not only Israel that will be threatened by Iranian nuclear weapons, noting the possibility of a nuclear attack even on US soil.
Speaking at a national security conference at Tel Aviv University, Barak said that while Iran may not have ballistic missiles capable of reaching America, it could put a bomb on a ship and sail it into a major American port.
"If it built even a primitive nuclear weapon like the type that destroyed Hiroshima, Iran would not hesitate to load it on a ship, arm it with a detonator operated by GPS and sail it into a vital port on the east coast of North America."
Barak went on to say Israel would support US dialogue with Iran, provided there was a firm purpose and dedication to achieve that purpose, but urged the incoming US administration to keep the military option on the table, just in case.
