Gaza border crossing reopens

Tuesday, February 01, 2005 |

Israel reopened the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza today, after a seven week closure. The army shut the terminal down on December 12th, after Palestinian terrorists dug a tunnel under a nearby military post and blew it up with more than a ton of explosives. Five Israeli soldiers were killed. The reopening follows the deployment of Palestinian police in the area and a drop in violence. Hundreds of Palestinians lined up at the terminal, many seeking medical treatment in Egypt.
