US analysts: Israel was too restrained in Gaza

While much of the world moans over what it calls Israel's "excessive" use of force in Gaza, visiting US military analysts this week told The Jerusalem Post that the IDF was far too restrained in its war on Hamas.

Lt.-Col. Rick Francona, a former US Air Force intelligence officer and military analyst for NBC News, said that Israel's assault on Hamas-ruled Gaza was viewed in US military circles as a "healthy demonstration" of Israel's capabilities.

Francona said that unlike the Second Lebanon War in 2006, the Gaza offensive did not leave anyone scratching their head over Israel's military capabilities.

"You've won the battle," said Francona, explaining that the only thing left to discuss is the Israeli leadership's decision-making process.

Fox News military analyst Lt.-Gen. Thomas McInerney, another air force veteran, said he thought Israel was "too restrained and could have gone deeper into Gaza."

"Your leadership is too sensitive about world opinion," added McInerney.
