Iran was disappointed with Hamas' performance during the recent Gaza war, and hopes to rectify the problem by sending the Palestinian terror group better missiles to use in the next round of fighting.
Regional media reported that the Iranian leadership announced plans to supply Hamas with long-range Fajr missiles, capable of striking targets up to 45 miles away. The Fajr missiles would put all of Greater Tel Aviv and outlying suburbs of Jerusalem within range of Gaza terrorists.
The decision was made after Tehran determined that Hamas was unable to satisfy any of the three pillars of the military plan that Iran trained the Palestinians for:
- Strong defense using tunnels, underground bunkers and roadside bombs;
- Strong and destructive attacks on the Israeli homefront;
- Create a 'victory image' by destroying Israeli tanks or abducting additional Israeli soldiers.
Iran believes that the Fajr missiles can solve points #2 and #3 by helping Hamas kill more Israelis and flooding the international media with images of Tel Aviv under fire.
