Gaza terrorists try to assault border crossing

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

While the international community talks up a Gaza truce deal as though the region is now calm, Palestinian terrorists operating out of the coastal territory attempted to assault one of its main border crossings on Monday.

Israeli soldiers spotted terrorists planting a bomb near the Kissufim Crossing during the early morning hours and crossed into Gaza to engage them. As the terrorists fled, Israeli attack planes were called in to destroy their getaway vehicle.

The Islamic Jihad terrorist organization later revealed on its website that the incident was an attempt to abduct another Israeli soldier. Army officials cited by the media said that a major attack had been thwarted.

Also on Monday morning, Gaza-based terrorists fired two rockets at communities in southern Israel causing no injuries or damage.

Rockets have been fired at Israel on almost a daily basis since Hamas declared a unilateral ceasefire to match Israel's own unilateral ceasefire over a month ago.
