Iran's first nuclear plant almost ready to go online

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 |  Israel Today Staff

Iran on Wednesday announced that it had begun an initial test run on its Bushehr nuclear plant in the southwest of the Islamic Republic.

The plant has been built with heavy assistance from Russia, and Russian officials were on hand for this week's tests.

The tests included injecting "virtual" fuel into reactor rods.

Israel and the West remain convinced Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons, and Bushehr going online could mark a significant milestone toward reaching that goal.
