Gaza terrorists fire seven rockets, damage Israeli house

Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip fired seven rockets into southern Israel on Sunday evening.

One rocket landed in the backyard of a home in the southern Israel town of Sderot, causing damage to the house. None of the inhabitants were injured in the attack.

More than 110 rockets and mortar shells have hit southern Israel since the end of the recent Gaza war over a month ago. Hamas pledged to end the rocket fire, and is participating in negotiations aimed at securing an official truce agreement with Israel.

But Israeli officials insist that until the rocket fire halts completely, there can be no agreement.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday ordered Defense Minister Ehud Barak to respond with greater force to the ongoing rocket attacks, in accordance with a recent cabinet decision to not tolerate such provocations from Hamas and the Palestinians.

Barak said that bad weather over the weekend had prevented Israeli forces from responding with the usual limited pinpoint retaliatory strikes.
