A former member of Iran's parliament told a conference at the University of Haifa on Sunday that he believes the current Iranian regime will collapse within two years and be replaced by a government that will forge friendly relations with the Jewish state.

Ayatollah Mehdi Haeri Khorshidi, who was a member of the first parliament following the Islamic Revolution in 1979, said that the downfall of the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his religious overlords will not and must not be the result of external force.

Instead, there are strengthening elements within Iran that have no connection to and despise the religious stranglehold on government, and will soon rise up and effect fundamental change.

Prior to the Islamic Revolution, the government of the Iranian shah was on extremely friendly terms with Israel.
